Beer pong is one of the most exciting and fun ways to have a good time at a party with friends. You can play with as few as two of you and the game is a great way to wind down and have a laugh. There are actually a lot of different beer pong tables available, and it is recommended to buy a specific table rather than put your existing kitchen table at risk. In this article, we’ve reviewed the best ping pong table for a variety of different needs.
We’ve looked at some of the most important features before creating our list, including the different table dimensions out there. They can vary a lot in height and length, even though there’s technically a regulation size. We’ve also looked at the weight and whether the table can fold. This can impact how portable it is. We’ve named the PartyPongTables 8-Foot Beer Pong Table our editor’s choice for its high quality build.
Our team have done a lot of research (with water instead of beer, of course!) and have created this guide. There is an overview table of the best models as well as detailed reviews of our favorite beer pong tables. We’ve also included a buying guide to help you to better understand the features of the top beer pong tables and how to buy one that you will be happy with, and that suits your specific beer pong needs!
Beer pong usually means there’s some sort of party going on, and nothing quite says party like LED lights and a patriotic flag! The PartyPongTables 8-Foot Beer Pong Table is a brilliant example of a beer pong table and has been nominated as our editor’s choice.
The LED lights, as well as looking cool, serve a purpose, they mean it can be played even in darker conditions such as outdoors on a campout or even just in a darker room at a party.
The table comes with 6 ping pong balls to get you started with playing.
The wax finish of the table makes it resistant to liquid so it won’t damage the table and you can simply wipe it clean. Though the main image for this product has the US flag, there are loads of different designs, you can simply choose whichever looks most appealing to you.
The table is lightweight enough to carry around and it can fold up to a compact 2ft by 2ft.
The only real criticism we’ve been able to come up with is the fact the lights are held on by adhesive, which, if it gets wet a lot can potentially come loose. This isn’t a common issue though.
What we liked:
Lightweight and folds to a portable size
Available in multiple designs.
Comes with the ping pong balls to get you started
LED lights attached
What could be better:
Adhesive holding the lights in place can stop sticking after a lot of use, if it gets wet
Tall people can sometimes find that beer pong tables are too low for them, and it can make your back hurt after a while. When looking for the best table for beer pong you need to consider the height you need, and if you need a tall table, the GoPong PRO 8 Foot Premium Beer Pong Table is definitely a great option. It is 36 inches high, which is much taller than many of the other options and comfortable for most players.
The table has a really sleek black design, and it looks, well…pro! Not that you can be a professional beer pong player, but you know what we mean. The size and shape of the table are full at 8 feet and it feels sturdy. Like a lot of the other options out there it has an MDF design but is coated to make it resistant to liquids.
The table folds down to a smaller size which is great for storage, but it isn’t really perfect for portability. It doesn’t have handles and doesn’t really fold down to a size that can be taken on trips.
It’s not ideal if you’re under 5’9, we would say. This is due to the tall design. If you are a tall person, though, the GoPong PRO could be ideal.
What we liked:
Great for tall people
Easy to wipe clean due to the reinforced MDF
Folds down for storage
Comes with balls
What could be better:
Not adjustable and not perfect for shorter players
The Floatation iQ HydraPong Regulation Size Floating Beer Pong Table is a brilliant table which floats, which makes it the best pool beer pong table. It is also advertised as a ‘Beirut’ table. Don’t worry, Beirut is just another name for beer pong.
Being a floating model, this has to have some different functions to most. It is made of a foam which is resistant to tears but allows it to float nicely. Also, it is puncture-resistant so that if it should get pierced it will still function normally.
The table isn’t foldable, and is pretty sizeable. Naturally, being made of a foam so it can float means that you can’t really have a folding table, but keep in mind that it is 6 feet long which is quite big to carry. That said, it is very lightweight so can be chucked in the trunk of your car.
The table has convenient holders for the cups, which is especially useful as it will be floating.
It is available in three different colors so you can choose the one you prefer. Beer pong can be the perfect game to play at pool parties and with this table it will be so much easier to play.
What we liked:
Floats with ease and there’s no need to inflate manually
Holders keep the cups in place when playing
Comes with a set of 4 ping pong balls
What could be better:
Not folding or deflating so might be difficult to transport
The Red Cup Pong 8′ Folding Beer Pong Table is a table with a very cool design and some added features that other manufacturers haven’t thought of, setting it aside for those who want something a little extra.
As well as being a pretty sturdy, full-length table at 8 feet long, it has some other benefits including an in-built bottle opener for all those beer bottles you are likely to be opening. It also has a very smart foam holder situated just underneath in which you can keep your ping pong balls. These are otherwise pretty easy to lose so this feature is useful.
The basketball design is very popular and visually striking, perfect for sports lovers.
Another great feature of this table is the folding capability. As well as the fact that it can easily fold down, it comes with its own briefcase for carrying from place to place with ease.
One way this table could definitely be improved would be turning the marked spaces where the cups are supposed to sit into proper holders to make sure they don’t get knocked over easily and that they stay in place.
What we liked:
Folds to a compact 2x2’ size and can be taken to tailgates and other parties
The GoPong Pool Lounge Floating Beer Pong Table has been named as our best multi-use beer pong table. What do we mean by this? Well, it’s far more than just a table! This is another floating option which makes it perfect for pool parties or even playing in the sea. On top of this, it can be used as a normal pool inflatable for floating and lounging once you’ve played!
This is an inflating model which has a simple pump inflation. This allows you to inflate it in a matter of minutes with very little effort.
Obviously, floating tables could drift away, but not this one. It has four tethering grommets attached which you can use to tie this to a specific area so it doesn’t float off while playing.
The spaces for the cups are proper holders, meaning they will keep your beer in place even while floating around.
Another huge benefit of this is the price. This is one of the most affordable portable beer pong tables out there, so you can get playing without a big investment. As well as being cheap, it has a warranty offered by the manufacturer to protect you, too.
What we liked:
Easy to inflate at up to 4x the speed of other inflatable models
Sturdy holders keep the cups in place even on the water
Very affordable and still has a warranty
Can also be used for floating in pools or other bodies of water
This is arguably the best portable beer pong table, and certainly the best budget choice. If you are looking for a mini table to take out and about with you and play beer pong without investing a lot of money upfront, then the SHARPER IMAGE Mini Beer Pong Tabletop Table could be for you.
This is a small and foldable option, but still comes with plenty of extras. Balls, 25 cups and even some catapults which allow you to fling the balls into play come included. There is also a bag which this can fit into.
It’s only 25 inches long, so you should be aware that you aren’t going to be able to play a full-size game of ping pong on this table. It folds to around 7 inches in length which makes it easy to transport even in a rucksack.
This is a great fun game, but has a little bit of a different design to the others. It needs to be played on top of another surface. This can increase the chances of it splashing onto a table you really don’t want to get splashed, so you need to be careful of this if you are going to buy the SHARPER IMAGE Mini Beer Pong Tabletop Table.
What we liked:
Super portable, can even be transported in a backpack
Comes with all you need to start playing and even has catapults for flinging the ping pong balls
What could be better:
Nothing like full size, only works as a small portable game
Some liquid could splash onto other surfaces
Things to Сonsider
Let’s face it, a beer pong table is not really an everyday sort of purchase! We’ve created a buying guide as we know this could well be the first time you’ve bought one of these. Beer pong is a fun and casual game, and isn’t exactly played as a competitive sport. However, it does have some basic rules and the game can be ruined if you don’t have somewhere to properly play. In this buying guide, we’ve put together as much information as possible to help you to make the correct choice of table for the circumstances you want to play the game in, whether at a tailgate, a party or even in a pool.
Why it’s worth getting a beer pong table
It’s not like buying a ping-pong table or something similar. There aren’t exactly a lot of regulations. However, it is worth having a specific beer pong table. Some people play this game on a coffee table or kitchen table, and while this is possible, it can spell danger. These tables aren’t designed to keep the cups in place, which is an issue in itself, but if there are any splashes or spillages these can ruin your kitchen table. Beer pong tables are designed to combat this issue.
Beer pong tables can also have some fun extra features!
Features to consider when choosing a beer pong table
The following are the features we’ve looked at when evaluating the best beer pong tables. You should also pay attention to these and consider which are the most appropriate when you are looking to buy a table. Base this on the space you have and where you plan to play the game.
Table length and height
The full length of a beer pong table is generally accepted to be 8 feet long. This is fairly sizeable and not all of us have enough space for this. Consider whether you need an 8 feet table! There are plenty of smaller and more portable options if not. A tiny table can make the game a bit less enjoyable. Luckily, many of the bigger tables, such as the GoPong PRO 8 Foot Premium Beer Pong Table can fold down to a much smaller size for storage.
The GoPong PRO 8 Foot Premium Beer Pong Table is also the table we have recommended if you are looking for a higher table. This is 36 inches in height which is best for tall people. Most tables are around 25-30 inches high.
Table surface material(s)
This is one of the most important things for you to consider when buying a top beer pong table. Most of the reason for buying a specific table may be the surface material, and the fact that it is resistant to water and easy to wipe clean. Sticky beer being on the surface for weeks is far from ideal.
Many people also go for a surface like a dry erase board which lets you write down scores and rules on the top.
Remember that the involves bouncing a ball, so you will want a table that has a relatively bouncy surface.
Foldability and weight
Your beer pong table shouldn’t weigh the same as a solid oak kitchen table or anything like that. It should be relatively portable, and probably have some way to fold it down to a smaller size. For instance, the PartyPongTables 8-Foot Beer Pong Table can fold down to a very compact 2’ x 2’. This makes it much easier to store and can even make it portable and easy to carry around.
Most products on this list don’t weigh too much. Naturally, the inflatable floating beer pong tables are really lightweight.
Stability and durability
the table should be suitable for bouncing a ball on with some regularity and even bounce. A level surface is desirable, and this often comes from the stability of a table. Even though a light table can be appealing as it is very easy to transport the smaller, more lightweight tables around, they can sometimes sacrifice a little bit of stability in the process. There is a balance to be struck for the ideal table.
Durability is a big deal, too. A table which won’t last for a long time isn’t a good investment. Let’s face it, beer pong tables need to be able to stand up to a little bit of punishment. They can easily become worn but should be designed to combat these. Appropriate coatings and sturdy materials can help to ensure a beer pong table lasts and doesn’t break after a few uses.
We’ve included floating models on our list. Obviously, with these, the durability is even more vital, as any perforation can mean that the table will no longer be able to float.
Extra features: in-built cup holders, LED lighting, and storage
The companies making beer pong tables are trying to outdo each other with extra features, and some of these are really useful. Some examples of the extra features which can be found include LED lighting. Our editor’s choice product has great looking LED lighting around the sides which can light up the table in the dark and just provide excellent decoration.
Other extra features include storage to keep the balls in place and so that you don’t lose them in between playing.
Features which are in place for the pool style tables designed to be played on water include grommets for mounting in a specific place. Some of them can even be used as other pool inflatables and double up as loungers, such as the GoPong Pool Lounge Floating Beer Pong Table.
Beer pong rules, tips, and tricks
Beer pong is played with two teams. They can have just one person in the team. On the table, set up a triangle of cups, usually six or ten. These are what you will be aiming for. The cups should all be filled with the same amount of beer or other drink.
Players take it in turns to aim at the opponent’s cup. If they manage to get their ping pong ball into the cup, then the other player has to drink the contents. If they manage to get the ball in via bouncing it, the player has to drink two cups full.
There are many tips to becoming a better beer pong player:
You should use the same motion you use to shoot a basketball and use your legs to help you to throw.
Always aim for a specific area not just generally throwing towards the cup.
If you keep missing in the same direction, then you should work on your technique and try different angles.
Create an arc so that it can bounce down straighter and closer to the cup rather than fly off the lid.
In theory, you can play beer pong on any table, but they are not designed for the game. This can mean that you ruin your existing table, and splashes from the game can quickly seep into wood. It really isn’t advisable, and a specific beer pong table can keep your other tables clean.
The main thing is that you keep the table clean, and do so quickly after each use. If beer has been splashed it can go very sticky over time. Make sure that as soon as you have finished you wipe the table down. Generally, you shouldn’t use your tables in adverse weather, either.
Wrapping It Up
The PartyPongTables 8-Foot Beer Pong Table is our best-rated table at 9.9/10. It has a brilliant set of features and the LED lighting is a real bonus. You can even select the exact design you are looking for, and it folds down to be portable.
Another of the best beer pong tables is the GoPong PRO 8 Foot Premium Beer Pong Table. If you’re over 5’9 then this is the table for you, as taller people can end up having to crouch for tables less than 30 inches tall. It gets a rating of 9.9.
