The Olhausen Billiards 8 ft Hampton pool table was hard to put at the top of this list – but that was only because all of the tables featured here are of excellent quality, and all have their own unique attributes. The Hampton made it into first position because it offers the best balance of quality and price – it truly is a stunningly good pool table.
Made from maple and covered in a mahogany style finish, the gloss on this table is like the icing on the cake and comes courtesy of the pearlized top coat. A choice of over twenty playing surface colors will mean that this table will look great – no matter where you decide to locate it.
Leather pockets on this model come in black, and there is a cue drawer included on the Hampton pool table – which is a great touch.
Everything you’ll need to play a game comes with the Hampton pool table. Olhausen supplies two maple cues, two ball racks, a cue rack, rail brush and a full set of balls.

Why did it make our list?
Great looks in maple
Solid build
Full package includes cues and balls
Free delivery
What is not ideal about it?
Mahogany finish and traditional design won’t suit all environments
The Olhausen Billiards 8 ft Belmont pool table is almost hard to believe, such is the level of build quality on offer for the price. This table is our budget pick because it represents great value, and not because it offers anything less than beautiful good looks, solid construction, and superior playing experience.
Made beautifully from maple and finished in a cherry lacquer that won’t look out of place anywhere, the Belmont isn’t just a very well-made piece of equipment, it’s a beautiful piece of furniture, too.
The pockets here are matching cherry leather, and they’ll give an extra element of quality to the feel of this table during play. As usual with Olhausen, you get to choose your cloth color to match the surroundings where you intend to site the table. Everything you need to get playing comes with the package, which is all installed for free by an authorized Olhausen dealer.
Many people are going to be attracted to the looks, quality, and the price of this table. You can see where Olhausen has shaved some cost off with this table. The woodwork isn’t as ornate as some of their other tables, but it’s a great option that represents unbelievably good value.
The Olhausen Billiards 8 ft Breckenridge is a stunning pool table to look at and play on. The design here is more contemporary than some of the other tables in the Olhausen range, but the finish retains a strong timber feel, and this table really would fit right in almost anywhere.
This table has black pockets, which contrast very well with the Breckenridge timber finish and will add much quality to the overall game playing experience on the Breckenridge pool table.
It is slightly disappointing that this table is manufactured from pine, but Olhausen tend to use very old-growth timber so there isn’t going to be a sign of sap here and you can probably be confident that this build will stay as stable as hardwood. The choice of timber does not affect the weight and feel of the table – this is one of the heaviest Olhausen products on the market in the eight-foot size.
As always, you get the full selection of twenty-four playing surface colors to choose from, and a complete set of everything you’ll need to get playing – including two cues.
Installation is free, and you will benefit from Olhausen’s vast dealer network and excellent customer service if you do experience any issues.
Decades of experience in the pool table business have gone into what the Olhausen Billiards 8 ft West End pool table has become – and that shows a lot. This table has a superb contemporary-looking feel to the design, and it really will suit many modern environments. From the ground up, the West End oozes quality and looks immovable, robust, and attractive.
Everything here is made from a lovely solid maple, and the timber gets a finish worthy of the style and quality of this table, being decked out in matte smoke – this product will impress anyone that sees it. The lacquer is topped off with a pearlized effect – just to make it stand out from the crowd further.
The West End table gets black leather pockets, to enhance gameplay and continue the stunning aesthetic. This table is available in any one of a selection of twenty-four colors so it will match any décor or surroundings.

Things to Consider
Buying a pool table is an important decision, and it’s essential that you are armed with the right knowledge before you start your search. This buying guide is designed to help you identify what features and design characteristics are going to be important to you.
Why Olhausen?
When it comes to experiencing the joy of playing pool, snooker, or billiards, few manufacturers can deliver like Olhausen do. Employing traditional methods of table construction for premium quality playing time, Olhausen take the old craftsmanship and combine it with modern technology and techniques to produce stunning tables that look amazing in any setting.
Key billiard features to consider
Before you go out and buy your new Olhausen pool table, it’s essential to make the right choice from the Olhausen range. In order to do that, you will need to have a rounded knowledge of the important features and attributes of these great tables. Read on for a run through what goes into making and playing on Olhausen tables.
Size
Pool table playing surfaces are measured in a standardized fashion in order to make sure that all tables are defined in the same way. Regulation method for assessing the playing surface of a pool table is to measure between the cushion noses – which is the most prominent part of the cushion or rail (where the ball bounces)
Common pool table sizes are as follows:
12-ft x 6-ft (snooker sized)
10-ft x 4-ft 8-inches (oversized)
9-ft x 4-ft 2-inches (regulation size pool table)
8-ft x 3-ft 10-inches (pro 8 sized pool table)
6-ft x approx. 3-ft (bar box size)
Frame
Pool table frames have to be incredibly strong and rigid to support the weight of the frames themselves, slate, and all of the components of the table. Any flexing action or warping to the frame of a pool table will result in play that is not true and will make the table unusable. Slate is incredibly dense and heavy, so the more slate is used in your table, the stronger and more substantial the frame must be.
Legs
Pool table legs have to be amazingly strong to be useful. Not only do they have to support the weight of a huge chunk of slate, they need to support the bulk of the frame too. However, that isn’t the limit of consideration when manufacturers design the legs for a pool table. Because players will often only have the tips of their toes on the floor, table legs have to be able to endure the weight of the players too – so construction in this area is crucial. Any movement in the legs is a disaster for the accuracy of play.
You may think that the method of leg attachment isn’t important. Once the table is in place, it’s not going to move and should be fine, right? This isn’t necessarily true. Pool table legs are sometimes attached with only one bolt, and this can come loose over time, with players clambering to make shots.
Quad anchor legs are superior because they will not loosen over time. They use four bolts on each leg, instead of just one.
Slate
Pool table beds come in all sizes and are made from many different materials when you examine the marketplace. For years, however, traditional billiard table makers relied on one material to guarantee the trueness of the table bed – and that was slate. Slate is the perfect blend of hardness and machined accuracy to make pool table surfaces. It’s impossible to match that with man-made materials like fibreboard, slatron, or plywood.
Pool table slates come in three thicknesses, and the rule of thumb here is that thicker is better. You can find tables without slate. When you do find a good one with a slate bed it will likely be either three-quarter inch, one-inch, or one and a quarter-inch.
Cloth
Felt is the traditional cloth used to make pool and snooker tables. It provides the perfect combination of glide and consistency so as not to slow down shots, and to avoid deviation from the path of the ball. These days, there may be a Teflon element added to the cloth on your pool table – and this is great for resistance reduction, as well as providing some protection against spills.
Cushions
Parts of the rails or cushions on a pool table are made of a natural rubber or gum material, and this is the part of the cushion which lets your ball bounce back into the area of the playing surface when you take a shot. The rails are filled out with a clay substance which does not provide bounce in the same way.
Natural gum rails are superior in the way they retain their bounce indefinitely – as opposed to synthetic rubbers, which lose their bounce over time.
Pockets
Pockets come in many designs and are made from three materials generally. The best pockets are leather, followed by decent quality rubber versions, and plastic versions come in third. Pocket quality will affect your playing experience, so it’s wise to buy as good ones as you can get.
Accessories
Pool tables will usually be supplied with cue sticks (alternatively known as simply cues), and these are the sticks that a player uses to strike the ball. Cue sticks were, until recently, always made from wood, however, in recent times, carbon and other man-made polymers have been used successfully to make cue sticks. Players often buy and keep a cue stick for many years, so many people will want to upgrade the standard cue that comes with their table.
Bridge sticks (or Rests) are sometimes supplied with pool tables, and these are used when a player has to play a shot at the far end of the table and can’t get there without help. They essentially provide an artificial bridging hand to rest and run the end of your cue on. They come in a few shapes.
Racks are sometimes supplied with tables. These are usually triangular shaped and are used to set the balls up before the break at the start of a new game or frame.
You may also find rail brushes and a table cover in the package you buy. Score counters and even table brushes are also included in some table kits.
Warranty
Warranties are a great addition to any product because they provide peace of mind against shoddy workmanship and component failures. A more extended warranty with better terms suggests reasonable manufacturer confidence in a product – and also indicates that they experience relatively few costly returns and repairs. Always check out the warranty terms and duration when you are looking at different pool tables.
Tips on maintaining your pool table
It’s important to keep your table dry, and it’s a great idea to apply a cover when it is not in use. Avoid climbing or sitting on the table when it’s not made necessary by play. Have a schedule for regular cleaning and brushing of your table and its cushions.
Put simply, they’re put together better. You get a 100% bond surface with Accu-Fast, as opposed to two-thirds of that with other manufacturers. These cushions are also made with a high degree of consistency – meaning you can expect the same bounce from every single position on the table.
The answer to this question will depend on the size of the table you purchase and the length of the cues you will be using. Olhausen provides a handy guide
